"Girl Stuff"-SOLD from 2002
Still working on commissions. This piece , "Girl Stuff", is somewhere in the southern US now and was painted in 2002. I love still life and do not do enough of them. I have always enjoyed working from this angle.
I have been very fortunate to be able to support myself with only the "brush" now, for the past 11 years. It is truly wonderful to be able to do what you love. There are a lot of trade offs to be able to do this (dogs instead of kids), a 1200 square foot home instead of a 5000 square foot house (that is considered average size for new homes in NJ)! Hey, I'd live in a yurt if I had to, just as long as I can get through this life painting!

Excellent! This painting has an old world feel even though the items are very now.
I was perusing your list of masters and noticed that your Nathan Oliveira link is far better than what I have. I'm going to copy yours.
A yurt? seriously.
HA!! Would you believe you were commenting on my blog while I was reading yours?
Great minds, etc!
This 'still life' is amazing . . . something so mundane . . .now exalted to infamy and wonder! Great idea!!!
Silvina,
Actually a yurt might not be so bad. We would never have to paint it!
I LOVE Nathan Oliveira!
Mike,
You have such a way with words! This blogging is difficult for me because I do not have a gift with the "word". You have it all!
That's so inspiring that you are making a living of your art. I think that's what all painters want.
my husband likes to joke that at one of our previous houses I painted the walls so many times that we lost square footage. I needed to change the color constantly. that was before I started painting on canvases. I'm over the wall painting now.
Love your husbands quip about "lost square footage"!
I too, was a serial wall painter. A hard habit to break!
Dani,
It is really nice to be able to make a living from your art. The only down side is sometimes you get stuck in a rut. You are always painting with "will someone buy this" in your mind. After all, this is where your lively hood is coming from.
So sometimes it holds you back from moving in a new direction. You have to try and balance the two. You just HAVE to grow and meet new challenges as an artist and just hope your established following will grow with you. If not hopefully, you can find other patrons that like your new work!
hey thanks for the comment! some great paintings you've got here, really love this one in particular.
Great painting from an interesting perspective Sandra.
One time I calculated how long I could paint full time if I sold my house and lived in my van.
love this one.......dont remember ever seeing it. what the heck is a yurt?
David,
Google an image of a "yurt" and you will see!
i googled it.
put it next to the beach and i would live in one too.
11 Years! That's an inspiration! Wish you continual success!
Your fantastic artwork does tell stories!
I'm very impressed with how you light, compose and paint your world.
